bento bento

For the past few months, whenever I felt sad, I watched Japanese animes or shows for a change. It felt like my mind was re-wired to adapt to the sounds of their conversations. The Japanese and Korean languages are completely different from the Chinese language and dialects in pronounciation, though we may be categorised as orientals. So far, we have only found the word, telephone, to sound the similar, ten hwa (spelling is guessed).

Anyway, being a foodie of sorts, I got fascinated by their idea of Bento, after watching the Japanese series, Abarenbo Mama (Wild Mama, or also known as Sassy Mum). It's like an equivalent to the American Lunchbox. Or the Indian tiffin lunch. However, I find bentos special, as they are like little works of art.

Being a fan of Japanese food (yes, I can eat it almost every meal) only fueled the interest to try it out. I don't know how this will end.. whether it's just a passing flame, or a little flame that will grow and carry on till I can do it well. (For example, for baking, I suppose the ultimate aim of a home baker would be to be able to bake and do cake decoration like a professional, besides having great tasting cakes). My cousin Val is doing a great job in that field.

On the practical side, I supposed it wuld be great for my hubby and baby to have some pre-packed food that is nutritionally healthy when we are not at home, or when hubby's at work. heheheh. Let's see how this will progress. So far, I have gotten a simple plain plastic container with 3 compartments, and some cute little rice mold presses just to try it out. I guess this feels like I am pulling the curtain aside to take a little peek into the Japanese culture.
