the rah-rah days are over

I cannot sleep tonight. It's 4.11 am. This phrase keeps repeating itself: the rah-rah days are over.

Early this morning I read news of a sad nature regarding a part of the BOC. But I will not describe it. As I thought about it, the phrase repeated itself again, the rah-rah days are over.

I see a parallel actually. Perhaps back around the end of the 80s and into the early 90s, there were leaders both natural and spiritual -- placed on the pedestal, treated with such high esteem that no one dared to question their decisions. In our country, it was the same. It was ruled with an iron fist. No one dared to say much, and seemingly everything looked alright on the surface.

In this season, I believe those hey days, or rah-rah days, are over. Society has changed. The current generation are more awakened to think, and process thoughts, make conscious decisions for themselves. Not just shut up and listen, as taught by the old school system throughout this nation. Times have changed. Hearts have changed.

I believe this is the work of God. It's a deeply humbling situation to be a leader these days. I believe strongly if we heed Paul's advice, to watch lest we fall, is wise. And following Jesus' wise example of servant leadership birthed out of love - then we will not fail. Love never fails. Faith, hope and love. The greatest of these is love.

Love requires us to be patient, or longsuffering. To be kind, and not easily angered. In leading people, it means we have to give the time, space and energy to really hear people out and hear their hearts, then to have the humility to bear burdens, and troublesome moral faults. I guess being a leader is never easy. Not the Jesus way. It's never comfortable to our flesh. It requires a death of self, hence the carrying of our own cross.

I feel these values that Jesus our Lord laid down as conditions for leadership have been forgotten, and oft times, overlooked. We need to carry our Cross, not lord over others - as the world does. It's not easy, but it's going to have an eternal impact. Perhaps unrewarded here on earth - by the applause of men, but it will certainly have the applause of heaven. I think I'll go for God's recognition. It's a much much safer bet. And though the journey may be quiet in the eyes of men, it certainly is pleasant with the companionship of the Lord :) Thank you Lord :) This certainly is an important reminder to myself. ttfn. (Note: ttfn - is the latest phrase learnt from listening to Tigger, a companion of Winnie the Pooh. It means, ta ta for now)
