I have a dream, have mercy on us Lord...

I dream of the day when men and women of every race here in this country can stand as a family; brothers and sisters of equal footing. I dream of the day when all in this nation will treat one another with kindness, compassion, honour and respect. Where people will be judged not based on the colour of their skins, nor on their faith, but on the content of their character.

I dream of the day when I can enter any shops owned by any race and would not be given hostile looks, nor ignored when asked for service. I dream of the day when everyone will be able to look each other in the eye, and convey true acceptance from the heart. I dream of the day when I can walk in the midst of any society and not hear any discriminating suspicions voiced because of one's race.

I dream of the day where truth will be taught in school systems, and the students thought to think for themselves, rather than to think in a certain manner. I dream fo the day when the finances of this nation will truly be channelled to nation building, and proper support will be given to people who are truly in need.

I dream of the day when everyone who comes to this nation will be treated kindly, fairly, and not as second class or third class citizens. Forgive the hypocrisy in our hearts. Have mercy on this Lord, O Lord. Please restore Your truth, righteouness and justice back to this land. Heal the broken hearts of Your people who have been robbed, despised and rejected.

Martin Luther King's 'I have a dream' speech given on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963 echoes his passion.

The most famous paragraph, embedded in the middle of the speech is as follows:

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today."

Amen to that! Jesus has broken down every wall.. so have mercy on us all who are still at times living blind lives, selfish, blaming others instead of taking responsibility and living out our stewardship. Have mercy on us. Forgive us Lord.
